Maps
When traveling around Bishkek and the Chui region, having a reliable map is essential for navigation. Here are a few tips on using maps in Kyrgyzstan:
Offline Maps: Since internet access may be limited in some areas, it's a good idea to download offline maps on apps like Google Maps, Maps.me, or 2GIS (very useful for navigating cities, with detailed information on businesses and public transport) before your trip. These apps allow you to access maps even without a mobile data connection.
Physical Maps: Physical maps are available at tourist information centers (CBT offices), trekking union office, hotels, some bookstores in Bishkek and “Bosogo” - tourist information desk at Manas International Airport. These can be useful if you’re venturing into more remote areas where mobile coverage may be limited.
Tourist Guides: Many tour operators offer specialized maps that highlight popular tourist destinations, hiking trails, and cultural sites. These maps can be helpful for planning your itinerary and ensuring you don’t miss key spots.
GPS Devices: If you're traveling to remote areas or hiking, using a GPS device can be a practical solution. Many tourists opt to rent GPS units for added navigation security in mountainous regions.
